Big Brother Day

Had a great time yesterday. Everything seemed to work out well.

Got out there around 9:30 started really fishing around 10:30. Managed to get one fish for my little brother, what a thrill. Seeing his face made my day.

Tide stage ended up being perfect just south of the dropoff, pod after pod were heading right up and over the flat. After pointing and pointing, finally remembered that the BB and LB didn't have polarized glasses on. After passing my shades on, one of them remarked "Man, its like Xray vision! There are tons of fish."

Just wanted to thank Heather and Juro for organizing this, really was another awesome event. Hope the scavenger hunt was just as much if not more fun.

Also, a big thanks to Rip Ryder as well as the Chatham Cafe for their integral role in this. That lunch was amazing!

Nick

Great time.
First JimS and I (his son) want to thank Rip Ryder, Chatham Cafe, Juro, and Heather for making this day possible. I think it was a great experience for all involved. Dad and I teamed up and took 2 pairs. The little brothers were more than content playing on the beach, while we gave casting instructions to the Big Brothers, who really enjoyed it. I think we may have hooked them, no pun intended. Just want to thank everyone else who came and helped out, it was great day. See ya next year.

Chris

P.S.- Would like to see some of the pictures.

Nice job Nick! The picture says it all.

What a fantastic day, even better than last year. We learned more for next year as well.

Special thanks to the Lincoln family and the Monomoy Refuge staff, Chatham Village Cafe, and all of the members who gave their father's day morning to such a great cause. Heather and the BBA staff were the real force behind it's success, kudos to them for their efforts on Sunday and thru the whole year as well. To all the big brothers I have infinite respect for what you do for these kids and it's our pleasure and honor to share some of what we do with you and the littles. And to all of the little brothers, you probably don't know how much you give to us by letting us rediscover our favorite pastime with you. Thank you!

As a special treat, I was lucky to have my wife and daughter come out to see first hand how Dad likes to spend father's day... they were quite impressed by the whole affair and I have a feeling I'll get the whole family to come next year!

I will post lots of pics when I get back to town, and write up my report then as well.

Congrats to all participants for an AWESOME bbday in 2003!

As a big brother, I have to tell you what a great thing you did. It's got the gears in my head going. I think I'm going to try to get some of the local fishing clubs here to see if we can't do something like what you did.

thanks from Big Brothers!

Thank you to everyone for helping to create such a magical day!

I am overwhelmed by the support of the FFF, Juro, all the volunteers (many of whom I recognized from last year!), the Chatham Village Cafe, Clifton at the Wildlife Refuge, Keith and his family, and everyone else involved!

Our matches had a wonderful time! Keep those photos coming...they are fabulous!

If anyone is interested in finding out more about how it call came together (read JURO), or has questions about Big Brothers, feel free to contact me at hcoppock@bbmb.org.

I can't wait for next year! Thank you!

Heather

A few favorite moments:

Seeing the faces on the kids as they walked over the dune and saw and heard the oceanside surf for the first time.

Response when I asked one little brother, "What's your favorite thing to do in your free time?" Response; "Fishing now!".

Group of 10 or so little brothers clammering around a large live horse shoe crab.

I love the "x-ray vision" quote (above).

You guys have any favorite moments? Thanks to all who worked so hard to coordinate. Great day!

Long overdue feedback from Big Brothers about the day:

From Big Brothers:
"Thanks for a great show. You all and the fisherman
did a great job. Hope you got less sunburned than I
did."

"Thank you for helping setting it up-great event!! My little absolutely loved it, but I think I may have had more fun."

"Thanks Heather -a good time was had by all."

There is more on the way which was sent snail mail!
I have run into matches at other events and I was nearly mobbed by questions of when they can go again!

It was a truly magical day.
Heather
