Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall that the Connecticut River is right there or very close to White River Junction and has some good trout fishing. Your timing should be good for the trout.

Unfortunately that area of New England is a black hole in terms of personal fishing experience. I have done well for trout in the CT river in Pittsburgh, NH, but thats well north of White River junction. For Info I'd start at:

White River Junction is right on the Connecticut. I've never fished there myself, but the section right near there, and the lower White is supposed to be excellent for smallmouth bass. Memorial day should be primetime for them. Quechee gorge is supposed to be good, too, on the Ottaquechee. Also the White river further upstream (West) should have decent trout.
