Dear Bug Doctor...

Please help this striper and steelhead junkie learn more about the trouty tidbits that are popping everywhere lately.

After reading that inspiring article in last month's National Geographic (european mayflies) I pulled into the post office yesterday and my vehicle was mobbed with mayflies. They were dark brown on both ends with lighter amber colored middles. They had dark legs, three trailers off the butt and dark tan wings with a slightly gray hue.

The brook nearby is stocked with trout and I noticed some maniacal rise activity as I drove by. If I had the right fly and a trout rod in the car I would have stopped.

What were they?

Juro,

They are Hendricksons. There was a blizzard hatch of them on the Nis on Sunday. Helicopter-sized. My favorite hatch of the season!
