Straightening hackles

I`ve got dozens of flies left over from last season. After sitting in cases for so long the hackles are all curled, is there any way to straighten them out? Really, I`m talking about 6 or 7 dozen , never been used flies.

Steam works wonders for flies. Try holding them over a tea kettle and that should give them new life.

Run them under hot tap water, let dry on paper towel.

Straightening hackles

Steve,

Hot water trick is saferand works well. IF you hold the hackle too close to the steam from the tea kettle, you'll damage/destroy it.

Unless your water heater is turned way up, the hot, running tap water method is a winner.

Best regards and see you on the water!

I've had good results with the hot tap water method on flatwings.
