Fly Rods: Are you well-endowed?

This poll is for the number of fly rods (freshwater, saltwater, and/or spey), not complete outfits, presently in your ownership. I imagine that there are others besides myself that use the same reel on more than one rod; this is the reason for the "rod-only" stipulation. Just interested in what the average number is; I'll throw out a guess and say that the overall average will be in the realm of 4-5 rods per person that votes.

Do a search in the worldwide discussion forum for a thread titled "How many flyrods do you own?"

There were some interesting answers and observations.

Geez... looks like I might have underestimated on my guess. Truth be known, I'll be starting on two new rods in the next couple of weeks, so that brings me up to six total. From the looks of it, I might still be way below the average. Well, I'll just have to try harder!

One more question for those of you that participate in this poll: out of all of the rods you own, which one do you enjoy fishing with the most, and with what reel and line? Everyone has a favorite, right?

I have three now...

I had five, but I gave two away to budding fly fishing teenagers wanting to learn our sport.

Let's just say I am past the point where my wife can readily determine how many I have based on the number of rod tubes.

On the other hand, it's only a fraction of her dress count and I can use flyrods more than once

7 of mine have not been used in probably 5 years or longer, a couple in 15-20 years !

I feel quilty about that but hate to sell them since then the memories go with them.

My favorite rod a 9 foot , 8 weight fenwick HMG graphite bone fish rod which I bought in 1981 for GL steelheading has not been used in a year now due to the purchase of the spey rod last year. I know she is dying to get out and fish steelies and chinooks. She has had many a great day over the last 23 years and I feel quilty about not using her. She is still in prime condition. (No I will never sell this one)

Another long term fly fisherman's dilemna !!

Approximately 35 fly rods, many are older and were purchased years ago. All are modern graphite construction.

The local Sage rep. has a favorite saying,,,"If you remember how many fly rods you own, it is not enough!"

When friends are concerned about my habit,,,,my response is that is could be worse,,,,I do not drink, smoke, gamble or chase wild women.

Regards,
FK

At this point in time, with 40 poll results in, there are 289 rods among us if you take the numbers literally. Obviously, the number is much higher, as I think several people own over 20 rods each, with a couple of notables owning 35 and 70+ rods. So it's much more realistic to say that among the 40 who submitted their count, the actual number of rods is no less than 400. An average of 10 rods each... yowza! Hey, you only live once!
