Going to be in Chatham night of 11/3 with some old work friends, and was contemplating getting up early morning of 11/4 before my non-fishing friends drag their lazy butts out of bed and giving Chatham my last shot of the year.
Should I (i) hit lighthouse beach and fish out toward the mouth for the one last cow (or tiny schoolie!), (ii) hike out to stage harbor inlet, (iii) fish pleasant bay in north chatham (across from the "new inlet"), (iv) hit some other Chatham location (where?), or (v) stop beating a dead horse and get some sleep?
And of course I'll be hitting some Sandwich creeks as I drove home off the cape later in the day ....
Personally I would hit the Stage inlet or weather station because the water should be warmer. They're going to be on the move like crazy this time of year so I would just have a handful of spots you like and keep moving until it looks good. Try to hit the outgoing tide at stage inlet if the timing lines up. Cockle cove and ridgevale are some other spots I would consider. If all else fails hit the squire and lie
With high tide late morning (and a late night last night not helping matters) I slept in and hung out with my friends for the morning. By afternoon it was blowing and raining so I figured searching for moving fish with a fly rod was going to be a rough go. Hit Scorton's up high on the drive home, hoping warmer water there (and maybe some old fashioned schoolie holdovers) would brighten the day. Fished about 3 hours, got wet and cold - felt like I was steelheading .... but no love from the fish.
I think the fat lady has sung for me, at least from a saltwater perspective ....
I was thinking of hitting School House Pond or Goose to see if there are any little rainbows or browns . Does anyone know if they have stocked? Then go to the Squire and lie as well before Juro beats me to the best story.
On my way back from trap shooting today in Harwich...I stopped at my place off Ridgevale to pick up my fly Rods and to have a coffee and smoke on the little bridge at the beach and saw two guys fishing in relatively calm weather off the little Buck's creek inlet.... did not see any catching but was not there long.
That's awesome Phil... I'm booked this weekend but might sneak down mid-week if I can score a day off. Been working like a dog and it would be the perfect break!
Juro. Let me know. Boat is in the water. Gannets are dive bombing herring. Most activity is west of here now. Branford, Madison, ETC. Newport still has activity so it's not over yet. Four inch bunker patterns from shore. Here's Joe with a hefty one.
