You might remember about a year ago a Mr. Hildebrand was busted for poaching Chinook in the Skagit river. Well, the above link explains Mr. Hildebrand's punishment. I thought he was going to get away with it.
This is in line with BC policy (which I admire) - make 'em fearful of what they'll lose. A $6000 boat + the $5000 fine = alright by me.
A nice combination of financial and poetic justice. I just hope he gets to see his ol' boat with the new WDFW logo being used to patrol the Skagit.
Thanks for sharing Kerry - with all the poaching we've collectively witnessed on the rivers, this one victory sure is satisfying!
I kinda think the guy got off easy.. he should have lost all hunting and fishing privledges in all states for life. He should have had ALL his fishing and hunting gear confiscated ( including all vehicles with the stewardship decals)and 10,000 hours of community service in habitat restoration. And be made to have a sign in his front yard proclaiming his guilt as a poacher and one who works against salmon recovery..
Then when his 10,000 hours is up he gets the chair well ok maybe not that but it's a darn close call..
