I have an excellent raft made by Sevylor. The Sevylor rafts really are very sturdy and they only cost around $100. I love fishing out of the raft (comfortable and easy to swing around to take an extra cast at breaking fish).
I actually used my raft as a mode of transportation when I was in Alaska a handful of years back. I logged 5-10 miles as I rowed my way across various lakes on Admiralty Island. I loved that trip. I enjoyed the best day of fishing in my entire life while on that trip - but that is another story.
One day the wind creamed me while in the raft. Adrian is correct.
In fact the Sevylor raft looks very similar to the raft in the link that you posted!
If you are looking to use it in the salt then you should realize that the short oars that fit through the oarlocks do not get you moving very quickly. I would not feel safe in moderate current. It is perfect for freshwater though. I enjoy fishing from the raft far more than I enjoy my float tube.
Pool toys are now down to $120 at Costco. Stearns inflatable kayaks are shaped for stability and better paddling into currents. They come with two-sided yak paddles, pump and a carrying case.
My inflatable is a little more than that, I have made two configurations, one for rowing, has a seat that is just about in the center as being bow to stern. The second configuration has a wide seat on the stern with an outboard motor bracket, this works good with a two hp outboard.works great in the salt ponds, but I have a short somewhere between the magneto, and the throttle, what a shock I keep getting.:eyecrazy: I have been having a ball fishing outside the breachway, if it is not to windy.Should have bought one a few years ago. In my opinion beats a kayak. If it is not rough I can standup to cast, unlike a kayak plenty of room, payload of 750 lbs. Bring on the hard tails, instead of waiting for them to come in, I can go out and escort them in.:smokin: Adrian is right though, it is hard to row.
Juro,
Thanks for the headsup, I'm pretty content with my Yak though. This was more of a post for others if they were interested. I'm always bumping into deals, thought I'd pass'em on.
BTW--I've seen some FRS radios for short money recently if anyone's interested.
Nick
