- there was a program televised some time back (at least 5 years ago) that showed kids restoring a tiny stream in the Northwest, using boxes of gravel, and observing the conditions so the eggs would survive. Incidentally, the project had been underway for a few years, and was successful. They even showed pictures of returning adults on the gravel in the stream!
My nephew did a similar project with Atlantic Salmon Federation. They hatched and released atlantics in an unimpOunded tributary of the Connecticut River.
