I am working on a series of changes for the Forum during 2004, hopefully all good!
#1 - First I'd like to revive the contributing editor program.
Here's how it works:
- The other sections of the site need fresh content. People who want to contribute are given a password to an easy page editor that puts an article into the designated section, let's say the "Expertise" page for example. The content should be focused on sharing of a discovery, hard-earned knowledge, or just a great topic with the general readership. When published, the author receives a flyline of his choice up to $50 or may pay the difference between that and a more expensive line, like a spey line for instance - or do two and get it free as well, etc. Links to published items will appear on the banner of the flytalk boards. Sponsors and professional contributors will also be approached for material but will not be eligible for prizes, which are reserved for contributing members. However they will receive a Forum Professional Contributor Award and there will be a pro vote for a bigger prize; not to mention they will have a chance to strut their stuff as it were.
- We should try to get at least one article per month from a member, and any number of them from pro's in a separate section.
- At then end of the year we'll take a vote and the winner of the best new article contest wins a fly reel or rod. If we increase the sponsorships, then we will vote every 6 months. We will vote for a pro contributor as well.
#2 - Public Market will be activated as a place for finding bargain items, auctions, and for-sale-by-owner items. It will have a shopping cart system and will accept payment to/from participants using major credit cards or paypal with a small fee applied for Forum funds. We will invite sponsors to use the "bargain bin" as a way to offer goods for sale. The member for sale area will also provide a place for members to offer their handiworks for sale - flies, paintings, etc. There will be an approval process for member sale items to prevent this from turning into an eBay.
#3 - I would like to add a new section for more creative writing that stimulates the passion, humor or other non-technical aspects of angling. This would also be a good place to showcase artistic talents and great photographs, artistic fly creations in addition to writing. Not sure what to call it, but open to suggestions.
The key is the easy page editor. Anyone can use it to put content into these and other parts of the site.
Look for more info soon!
