Hi;

I did get a fly from a guide on the Cascapedia this year, but I have lost it. The name of the fly is Yellow Canary.

Anyone know this pattern?

Cheers!

Peter,

I think this may be what you are looking for. This fly was adapted from another fly called the Canary. I think the only difference was that the wing of the original Canary was made out of nothing but Golden pheasant crests. I am not sure who the original inventor is but its origins are on the Cascapedia.

Yellow Canary

Hook: Up eye salmon hook.
Tag: Fine oval gold tinsel.
Tail: Golden pheasant crest and Orange hackle fibers.
Butt: Black ostrich herl.
Rib: Medium Oval silver tinsel.
Body: Silver tinsel.
Hackle: Orange hen hackle.
Wing: Dyed yellow grey squirrel tail.
Topping: Golden pheasant crest.
Cheeks: Jungle cock.
Head: Black.

You guys got me thinking and i knew i had seen this fly before. Finally found it in an old sexton and sexton catalog.
There is no recipe listed but i'll just go by eye.
Yellow Canary
Tag: Flat silver tinsel
Tip: Golden or burnt yellow floss.
Tail: Golden pheasant crest with a red feather over(1/2 as long).
Butt: Black Ostrich Herl.
Body: Flat silver tinsel.
Rib: Oval silver.
Throat: Kelly green hackle fibers.
Wing: Two strips of Yellow Goose or Swan.
Cheeks: JungleCock.
Head: Black
Don't hold me to this but i am pretty sure of these components from the picture.
Maybe try the lads at the shop,, they have a toll free number and may have the fly on hand. Sexton and Sexton 1-800-443-5628
Good luck
Dwayne.
