Years ago, my then four-year-old daughter Kristin and I were fishing on a small reservoir in the Cascades near the head of the Clackamas River. It was an ugly little place, despite its location, but we launched the car-topper anyway and rowed out away from the shore towing an F-something orange and black flatfish behind us. I didn't know the place up from down when it came to fishing it, but just wanted to be out somewhere in the wilds with my daughter.
Along about whenever, she got this startled, excited look on her face as her rod doubled over and a six-pound rainbow (honest) erupted out of the water some forty feet astern.
"I'm catching one, Dad!" she squeaked, and started cranking.
One of my fondest memories of my fatherhood.
Happy Father's Day, indeed!
Cheers,
Eric
