I have to got to Leesburg, VA in late February, anyone know of some must see fly shops in DC? Should I bring a rod is there any access in the greater Washington area, or maybe an open trout stream? :hehe:
Chris, look up my pals Newel and Grizzly @ Angler's Lie in Alexandria(7 miles from the White House). Nice shop and good folks. Tell 'em Eddie said "Hi". www.anglerslie.com

"The
short answer is that Chris DeLisle will find himself falling between two
stools as they are flyshops closer to the Washington area and another good
one further out along the Blue Ridge Mtns but not much in Leesburg itself.
The Blue Ridge trout streams are running very low right now and are probably
an hour or so from Leesburg. Lots of native brookies that probably average
around eight inches."
Reasonably close Virginia Trout Streams will probably be unfishable in February (or of the Delayed Harvest Variety Stream). If you get back to Leesburg in April-September you are less than twenty minutes from the Potomac River and some great smallmouth bass fishing and the Native Brook Trout in the Shenandoah National Park are within 45 minute drive.
Your closest fishing will be at Big Hunting Creek which is in the Catoctin State Park outside of Thurmont MD. There is a fly shop in Thurmont that supplies the guides for Camp David outings (the presidential retreat is very close and if you can wrangle an invitation the fishing as you can imagine is "good," to say the least). Anyway that shop could tell you current conditions and the stream is an easy 45 minutes from Leesburg.
I have an office in Leesburg that I am at on Thursday's and Friday's and could probably be convinced to play hooky (sp?) for an afternoon of fishing. I have caught lots of fish in this stream, and a couple of good size fish. Feel free to contact me offline a wbozarth@mccandlaw.com.
Also, I believe Mayflyman was moving down to Frederick, MD, which is less than twenty minutes from this creek and he may be a good source of information.
Thanks fellas, You've talked me into bringing my rods.
