RI Conclave ?

Wondering about a RI Conclave, Time is getting short.
If it is wanted I have lined up two Charter boats.
One is my son, "Mako Bound" A 24 foot Hydra Sport.
Two is A 20 foot Boston Whaler a made for Flyfisher. With the able Charter Boat Capt. Ray Stachelek. A true knowledgeable Flyfisher. Has some 30 years experience. He also has some excellent fly patterns he has developed.
If the conclave is going to be strictly shore fishing I am sure Ray will be around, providing of course, he doesn't get a late charter for whatever date. I have already alerted both as to Oct.21. I would apreciate an early response. The fish are there right now.

Art,

I'm 95% certain we are looking at the wekend of the 21st. Thanks so much for lining up the boats. I'll open the signup near the end of the day today and depending on what we get for experienced boat captains, we'll either plan on matching up everyone with a boat spot or a select few for a shot at the reef rips and the rest from shore. Perhaps we could do this latter scenario by lottery??

Sorry I can't be any more definite on the boat situation, but the area is tricky to navigate and we can't have rookies winging it down there. I know for certain I'll be leaving my 14' tin boat at home.

Stay tuned....

Art -

As Al says, the clave is a DEFINITE. I just saw that almost ten people are signed up (18:00). I imagine that once people start thinking beyond the jamboree and realize that old man winter is right around the corner, the enrollment will jump pretty high.

Earlier you mentioned that you thought it might be too late. I just got a report from Capt. Rueben Perez and the way the fish are exploding in Rhody right now I hope there will be some action left when we arrive. (His report will be coming over the next couple of days)

It is very generous of you to put your efforts into the clave. You are definitely our Rhodyfest statesman and advisor, thanks in advance.

We are all ears, Art - keep us informed as the time nears.

best regards,

Juro

Clave,

Burlingame is our headquarters. This site has showers, running water, and limited electric hookups.

If camping in late October is not your idea of fun, there are tons of motels in the area. Could someone who is interested in that share any web resources they might have for the area? If you do stay in a motel, please drop by the campsite for dinner Sat. night, and do please send me word if you can't make it. We need an accurate head count for dinner.

Juro is food meister unless he runs off to catch puny steelhead http://216.71.206.188/images/flytalk/Wilk.gif" border="0" align="middle">

There are very small cabins available at Burlingame that sleep six (if you don't mind getting comfy), but the time to send in the application for them is now. Burlingame web site applications<-- scroll to the bottom.... I'll be sending mine ASAP.

Tent sites are not so much at a premium, but we would like to get everyone into the area of sites 99 - 103 since this is where the cabins and the big picnic tables are. Reserving now rather than later would be best.

Some things we will need to help pull off the dinner:

Fire wood
One folding table (if Juro's PNW trip coincides)
A tarp and means of hanging it
Cutting board and knife
Dish washing station
A good battery operated alarm clock <img src="http://216.71.206.188/images/flytalk/Wilk.gif

If you have any of these, please update your signup. (I promise next season we will have that automated check list thing I ranted about at the Boneclave)

BTW, if you forget your password to edit your signup, do this:

-- Enter your name exactly as it appears on the roster
-- Leave the password box empty.
-- Submit the login form

You won't get it to edit, but you will be presented an opportunity to emai yourself your password. <'Send password via email'> Let me know if it's givin you grief.

Ok, we have 13 currently signed up. The boating situation doesn't look good. Art has graciously offered to recruit his son and another charter captain for the day. That would mean 2 or 3 lucky dogs would be able to sample what Ruben Perez has been seeing on a daily basis. We will have to come up with some sort of lottery system.

I know I was the one to raise the flag of warning regarding bringing your boat, however, Juro informs me that the launch out of Connecticut is a cake walk and Art's son can act as an escort in questionable waters, so if you've been toying with the idea of bringing the boat, now is the time to commit one way or the other. (I would still say leave anything less than an 18' at home)

With the exception of firewood, it looks like we have everything we will need for base camp. Any thoughts on what to serve for food. (Terry, please tell me you can make this one and/or will be bringing/sending along your world famous salsa??
) Stir fry chicken leaps to mind as a tasty yet easy camp dish. Any other ideas?

Al, Thanks for the concern. I sent out a trial baloon on this clave to the War Dept. yesterday and well...still not sure, not looking good. I need some fish-free time to accumulate in order to accrue some good graces. Based on some fresh reports I just decided today that P.I. is over for me. So that will help (in a twisted way).
If I go to Rhody at all it will be known the week before. IF not, it would be an honor to send along some Salsa for y'all.

With 16-18 people and four or five boats we could really make a run at the fish in the Napatree / Watch Hill area. There would always be a rat pack on the shore, but that's no big deal - I love shore fishing and hope to do the Napatree death march while there at least once. I also have a way to row across to the west side of Quonny, etc. If we do not get the flotilla, we'll still have fun... but I think we are really close.

I think we can get 5 boats on the scene based on the discussions thus far. If so, and the weather permits, this trip could be an absolutely incredible finale to the year. I am fine with the rotation we did at Boneclave.

Either way it will be great but my point is, what are the possibilities?

One of the reasons I went down to RI today (Friday) was to look at the waters in relation to how safe I'd feel in my little boat. I just updated my signup. I'll be bringing mine.

The Albies will most likely be gone by the 21st and the focus will have shifted to the West, but today would have been a perfect day for drifting along the outer fringe of West wall. We saw tons of fish breaking just out of casting range. Even if all it does for us is save people a long walk out to Napatree, I think it's worth bringing.

GregO, one last trip for your boat before the winterization??

Juro - Gregg E. has been signed up a few days now, and mysteriously quiet..... Gregg, you holding out on us?

Last call. If your plans have changed, PLEASE update your signup.

If you have not yet signed up but want to be included in the game plan, now is the time. Art and I will be finalizing the schedule for Sat. We will not need to go to a lottery system since we have nearly as many open boat spots as we do shore bound anglers.

With Juro out West, we now have need of a few more items:

-- folding table(s)
-- cutting board and knife
-- high volume propane burner or two extra coleman stoves

Can I get a volunteer to be food meister? Stir fry chicken looks like the winner for the main course. I'll be bringing jag or rice pilaf as a side dish.

Reports right now are saying that the big fish can be found at night. If this pattern holds, we may want to get out to the breachways near the high tide Sunday morning ~4AM.

More to come.

Al -

I will still provide my folding clave table as long as people don't put their stoves directly on it (warped at a clave last year from the heat).

Gregg -

Maybe you could bring my steelie rod and stuff the same day I bring the table and we swap?

let me know.

No mystery about me being silent. I don't know how I missed this part of the thread - my mind must be out on the water. Or maybe I have water on the brain?

Anyway we would be happy to take on the stir fry chicken challenge. We will also bring cobbler makings as well as the striper marinara or boulliabase. We also have a couple of good fillet knives we'll bring along.

Juro, If I don't get your stuff to you sooner I'd be happy to do a table/gear swap. When and where do we make it happen?

Greg - You're on. My mouth is watering just thinking of them. Anyone adverse to steak again? I'll have my grille/stove. I think with only 12 people (Roop is out
), this will be enough, but if anyone has an extra grille, please bring it along.

Juro - Thanks. The table is for tying. Art is going to give some knot and fly tying pointers around the campfire. I think we can use the picnic tables for stoves and cooking and the like. Best to keep the tying materials and food separated.

sounds like quite the "do" -- with any luck, I'll be in RI on one of the days this weekend...weather/wave conditions permitting, my plan is to fish from the 'yak off of quonny...not sure where the rest of the "pack" will be.

tight lines all!

Go Dog Go! Al D., you're doing a great job. You are carrying the torch for this clave superbly. As a past Jr. Meister I feel funny not being in the thick of it offering a helping hand. Sorry to not be of assistance. I am still trying to get around the excesses of this season that have worn thin with "she who waits back at the ranch". I still might show up if I don't totally smoke it with the No. Shore fish scene. How often can you say your home waters blow away the Cape? Forget the Big Girl Bar head for the Brute Rocks! Another warm week to boot. If I don't go I will be sending whatever I can to help by way of Grego.
Keep up the great work Al! You da man.

Thanks Terry. I hope you can join us.

Guys, sorry for not waitinng to hear suggestions on the proposed boat schedule. Please let me know if I can rework things to suit your plans. I would like to get Jen and Quentin out Saturday afternoon with Tim (if that's agreeable to you Mr. Watts) and that will have all signed up members with a shot at glory.

Mike and Brian:

"No, Al; we are not going out to Sugar Reef in this 14' skiff!"

Please memorize these words and chant them at all times while aboard my boat.

Ok gang, I've updated the info sheet with directions to the two boat launches. If anyone has a chart of the Stonington, CT area, please bring it along. I'll be adding driving directions to the various spots tonight. Look for them after 10 PM.

I've sent out cell phone numbers via email. For anyone who thinks they may be able to make an eleventh hour appearance, email me and I'll forward you a copy.

Really looking forward to this; now if we could just get some 30lb. bass in the area :)
