If you have a big magnet, you can leave it stuch to the vice untill you use it. Maybe from Edmunds scientific. I leave a tool in my magnetized bowl from Nappa, and it gets magnetised very quickly.
Take a magnet (the larger the better) and slowly, stroke the jaws in one direction only with it, for about 2 minutes. This should be plenty to magnetize the jaws. I do the same to my tying scissors, makes them great for picking up hooks.
Why would you want to magnatise your vise jaws? I mean, magnatised jaws would get in the way when tying (especially when tying #10 and smaller) because the jaws would attract the hooks and make placing them properly in the jaws very difficult.
You must hold the hook in order to place it in the vice. It is improbable that the hook will be wrenched from your fingers by light magnetization...
