Circle hooks for drifted flies

Has anybody tried steelheading using circle hooks for deep-drifted nymphs? The geometry of the take seems like it should work, and it would also reduce foulhooking. Am I missing something, or would this make sense?

Tried in Erie

I tried this in Erie at 12mile last fall and had bad luck. Lost about 6 fish very quickly. Switched to Standard salmon hooks and hooked a bunch and landed three.

My thought is that circle hooks work best for prey that is really active about taking the fly- tunas, stripers, blues.

Just my 2 schekels-
