My fishing rig was stolen from in front of my house today while I was home at 2pm. I had planned to go fishing this evening and had put a few things in the car. It is a silver 85 FJ60 Toyota Landcruiser with 113000 original miles.
I guess it was good I had not brought out the waders and reels yet but still lost a ton of stuff. Hopefully they will find it with the stuff still in it..yeah right.
So if any of you see any of this stuff on the market let me know:
CND Custom 1307
Simms guide aquastealth studded boots in size 12
Chota felt boots in size 12
3 swing leaf wheatleys with ALL the steelhead flies I own in them.
Ross Gunnison 3 and spare spool with floating and intermediate line
Bucks bags chest pack with a flask of makers mark in the back
Patagonia deep wading jacket in XL.
F***! Now that I write the list I guess I lost more than I thought. I better start tying as I no longer own any steelhead flies and I gotta buy some boots. At least they did not get my G3 waders...
Sean, this is terrible, and I hope for a good resolution. In the meantime, I ask that you post a list of flies and sizes that you regularly fish. I'll help fill the order.
Sean that really sucks. I really hate thieves. Hopefully it is someone who just
wanted to go for a joy ride and your rig will be found with everything in it.
Sorry to hear about this BUT YOU COULD AT LEAST KEEP YOUR TANK FULL OR LEAVE YOUR WALLET ON THE FRONT SEAT! And where is the cane? I mean come on I'm not into stealing other folks vessels just wanted the rod.
Really sorry to hear this, hope they find it soon, I've only been ripped off once and I really felt violated so I know how you must feel. We will be looking in the pawn shops for your gear.
Well I sleep with my bamboo so that is why it was not in the car
It has been a surreal experience. I actually saw the person driving off in my car but since I was home with a sleeping baby there was not a whole lot I could do. It really sucks and fishing just aint going to happen for a while now that we are a one car family again. Seeing that I have a new roof and basement remodel in the works I sure hope they find that thing in one piece or I aint fishing till the spring.
Sean what's the plate of your cruiser, color, condition. I live north of you in Stanwood and will keep my eye out for you. I hate theives. Sorry about your loss.
Does the license plate have something like "flyfishing" in it, I remember? That car has a great history with flyfishing. It had been with fly fishermen for 5 or 10 years. It may know rivers better than some of us. A great companion. Who would want to steal a car like that from a fly fisherman? Hope you can get it back, Sean.
Yes it was owned by a very cool women who was a flyfisher. It was the primary fishing rig for a group of women who were more hardcore about fishing than I ever will be. From what she told me many a late night was spent tying flies on the tailgate all over Idaho and Montana. She had given the truck the name "The Silver Sister" which I kept as it seemed the perfect name for this truck.
It had "Catch and Release Wild Trout" plate holders which were put there by her and was what sealed the deal when I went to look at the truck. In fact I had just cleaned it out a few nights ago and found some of the flies they must have tied stuck under the seats. Looked like some unlucky trout had mangled them.
Sean, I just got back in town, sorry to hear of your bad luck. I will let you know I have two friends who had their LC's stolen a 60 and a 62 both were only joy rides and nothing was taken from either. Hope your luck is the same,
Well the news aint so great after all. The car was recovered 2 weeks after it was reported stolen. The seattle police department and lincoln towing failed to try and contact me until tonight. Even though I have been calling them bi-weekly to check if it had been found. Now I owe impound fees for 4 months which comes in at a cool $5800. Almost as much as the truck is worth. I may have no recourse but to let it go cause no way i am paying that kind of cash because the police and towing yard failed to do thier job.
Will find out more tomorrow but it is looking grim....
That is such a bunch of BS Sean. The truck was reported stolen? If it was then the police and or the impound yard should have contacted you. I smell a rat! You owe nothing.
It sounds like a lawyer may be prudent because there is no excuse for either the police or Lincoln Towing not informing you they had the vehicle.
I hate to say this, but it sure smacks of scamming (if not autright fraud) on their part since by keeping you in the dark about it being recovered two weeks after it was stolen (despite your b i-weekly calls) and then 5 months later contacting you that they have it pretty much guarantee a person is going to let the vehicle go because the impound fees add up to the point where you end up paying for your vehicle a second time. I strongly suspect an attorney would be able to do something to get the fee reduced to a reasonable 2 weeks impound fee.
Ok things are looking a little more promising. Just got off the phone with the police and it looks like the towing company is at fault. The plates were switched out on my rig for another stolen cars and they failed to report the VIN number to the police and just went off the plate number. The police did a big sweep in the last few days of the VINs of all the cars in the impound lots and my truck came up.
Apparently this is looked at as negligence on the towing companies part by the police. They have some sway to demand the towing company not charge me all the impound fees seeing as that practice is pretty close to fraudulent behavior.
So I gotta wait until Monday to talk to the stolen vehicle unit and go from there. If it is proven the towing company screwed up (which they did) my out of pocket expense should be minimal.
Good news is the car has no visible damage , even the ignition appears to be in tact, so I may get the truck back in as good of shape as it was when it was stolen. It could have only been in the thieves hands for a very short period of time so that should minimize any damage or missing parts. Hopefully my fishing gear happens to be in there as well.
Hope all your gear is still there. It sure sounds to me like what Flytyer said about the attorney would be a good way to go if they try to stick you with the huge fees. I don't think you should have to pay a cent when you were calling and they let it slip through the cracks. You ought to charge them fees for not getting it back to you sooner. Good luck.
John
