I am leaving for Caye Caulker Belize in July and was wondering for those of you that have been there what would be your top 10 flies for bonefish. I have a selection of about 40 so far but was just curious what has worked for others there. 1st time in Belize and bonefishing as well. Thanks for any input, Brian
I fished a couple of days there years ago. I don't think the pattern is that important but i remember using a lot of small flies (6/8). There is a lot of grass so you definitely will want some flies with weedguards and crabs for permit in case you happen to find some. Bring a bunch in different weights and colors and you should be good to go. I seem to remember the tan squimp being a good fly that week.
Thanks bigdave. I do have a variety of weights and about half of them have weed guards. All but 2 of the flies are size 6/8 so I should be good there. Most of the colors that I have are tans/browns and half a dozen white or green and some with pink.
As usual, Dave gives good advice. I'd throw in a few unweighted shrimp for tailers and a handful of big petersens spawning shrimp to get the attention of fast-moving fish.
Good luck
