Juro,

Thanks for making the time to pull this swap together. I am looking forward to seeing the what the others have put together.

For the tubes I provided siwash hooks that I closed the eye on, I now use a daichi 2451 #2. The giant Speys are tied on 5/0 Partridge Salmon hooks.

2" Aluminum Tube
Orange floss body
Medium tinsel rib
Rear Hackle Black Saddle (can be palmered)
Hackle Black Marabou
Front Hackle (Optional), black saddle or peacock body

Hook: Upeye Steelhead Salmon hook
Tag; Optional Mylar Tinsel
(Underbody hook shank wrapped with tinsel)
Body (rear); Flouresent Orange or Green
Rib; Mylar Tinsel
Body Front; Purple Seal or Seal substitute
Hackle; Black Marabou
Collar: Black Saddle (I also like Teal)
Wing; Peacock

STEELHEAD GREEN

Originator: John Rowley
Tyer: John Rowley
Thread: Flat waxed Fl green
Tag: Silver flat tinsel
Body: Back half, Fl chartreuse floss tied over silver tinsel
Mid section, Black ostrich herl
Front half, Flat waxed Fl green tying thread
Spey hackle: Chartreuse burnt spey hackle wrapped from ostrich herl forward
Wing: Sparse green calf tail to end of hook covered by black calf tail to one half gap width past hook
Collar: Yellow dyed Guinea Fowl - two turns

For water darker than the "steelhead green" stage I use a heavier wing, ie more black calf tail, for increased silhouette

Those flies will surely bring out the beast in the yard long rainbows in three seasons of swinging the currents!

For all future pattern posters - could you please start a new thread with the name of the fly as the subject? That's how the archive works.

thanks in advance,
