Charlie, we're looking forward to your Gaspe salmon fishing report. I noticed you hit the 48 hour a couple times too. Maybe the draw box isn't quite so stuffed this year.
The rivers on the Gaspe are fishing well; you should be in for a treat. The York, Dartmouth and St. John all have good numbers of fish, as do just about all the rivers on the Gaspe. At about time I left they needed water but from what I understand they are getting a good amount of rain, so you should be in good shape when you go.
The one thing that kind of stunk was having the extra Malbi river rods on the reserved zones. They made the zones kind of crowded, not much different from fishing the open water. However, they still fished well and we got fish. In fact the open water fished very well also. Got my biggest fish of the trip from Zone 1.
One thing that kind of through me for a loop was that the owner of Malbi lodge and his head guide fished one of the reserved zones using the extra rods he was given by the Quebec government for his business. I was under the impression that he was given these extra rods because he needed them to stay in business and here he is using them for his own personal recreation? :tsk_tsk: Interesting!!!
In any event you should have a great trip when you go. All the best to you and give us a report when you get back.
As usual you tell bits and pieces of reality (what is in your kool-aid).
I was given 4 rods per day in June from the Government. I did not need any on June 7 but they were imposed regardless and so I took one of my guides not Austin (my head guide, written up in a wonderful piece in Forbes). I think we fished 3 hours in total. The rods were there and were used.
For the season I have fished 1 other time during the time of imposed rods and that was on open water with Dave Bishop and Wilson. Chris was the lucky one that day. The rods that are imposed are being used by my clients on daily basis.
Too bad you left early; the falls fished great on Saturday and my clients appreciate you passing them up.
There he goes again with that attitude we love so much. This guy rises to this stuff better than a salmon to a dry fly.
Billg,
Regardless of your intent there are a great deal of people out there that feel your use of those rods for anything other than your clients is unethical. If you wanted to just look than go and look. There are a lot of people out there that entered the draws in good faith expecting to fish those zones with a specified number of rods. Now they not only have to compete with your clients fishing but with you and your guides? You can posture all you want but right is right and wrong is wrong.
I will continue to respond when the water carriers do not state facts.
You seem to forget that everyone who put in for the winter draw WAS made aware that there would be extra rods (I re-pointed that out to you last time). If they did not like it they did not have to come and fish. If you do not like the rules and regulations then by all means fish somewhere else. It won't be long before mandatory outfitting and guiding is in place here in Quebec so much of the hullabo will disipate in time. It won't be soon enough.
You have mistaken me for someone who cares what you or others think; the rods are there and will be used for my clients. The day I had no anglers I used 2 for a guide and myself. No one seemed to whine that day; only people who were not in sector seem to be whining.
I will make a note that you think it is wrong. Let me know what other "wrongs" I can add to the list. Your opinion is most appreciated. Say hi to Pinnocchio and the black widow for me.
Bill
