Old rod useable?

I recently found an old fly rod that I believe belonged to my grandfather, and was wondering if it is useable. The name on it is Horrocks-Ibbotson Co., Hexi-super-cane, Utica, NY, USA. It is a 3-piece rod with 2 tip ends, a total of 9'-7", and appears to be in excellent condition, but old. One problem is that the first eye, a ruby-lined eye, has come loose on one side.

I would guess that it may have been from the 1920's or 30's, as I know he started fishing the big MN. lakes for Walleyes and Muskies in the 1940's and on. I've never fly fished, and don't know whether this could be my start. Is it useable, or does age mean too brittle to use? I assume that I would have to find a place to reattach the eye.

Unfortunately, I didn't find a fly reel in the tackle boxes.
