Outside In Snook, 8/4-8/6

My buddy Mike and I finally had a chance to fish the St. Lucie inlet.
Weather and other obligations had conspired to keep us from catching
until this past weekend on good tides. On Friday night we got the boat
in and headed out towards the inlet. Once on station, the bite picked up
slowly and held steady until the tide slowed. Mike caught a bunch and as
luck would have I did not bring my A-game and only landed one with a
couple of dropped fish. All were nice fish (photo attached in a follow-up) caught on
the fly, large kinky fiber minnows.

That next evening, we headed out again to fish the inlet. The
water was rough and a couple of squalls moved in but we held our ground
only to be rewarded with one small snook. Since the outside gig was
blown out we decided to take it inshore and fish the bridges which
turned out to be the right move. After switching up flies I finally had
them dialed in on what they wanted, a small brown and white minnow
imitation. With that fly, I was getting hits almost every cast and then
I hooked up with beast of a nice snook which gave me a great fight on my
9w with my drag maxed out. Once landed we snapped a couple of pictures
of this battle torn snook (sorry about the photo quality, its tough
taking a digital photo at night). Once the tide slowed so did the bite
and we headed in a 3:30 AM.
