The DMF voted yesterday on the new Bass Regs after the public hearings from last week. They are going up 2" to 30", which is pretty much a token gesture to keep the other ASMFC members happy, in my opinion, but is better than nothing. I guess the unanimous public comments to go to 34"+ at Gloucester's meeting weren't taken too seriously...
I have not completely deciphered the process, but the Marine Fisherie Commission voted, so I believe it is a done deal unless the DMF has to approve it...but I don't think that's how it works. I think MFC is delegated the authority, so it looks like it's 30".
(but don't hold it against me if I'm wrong)
I don't think we are doing enough but at least it is a good sign that the have been making some changes. With the 30" and the 14% drop in commercial at least there will be some movement it the right direction.
