I'm going over to Salvador, Bahamas, in a few weeks but know very little about the island or the bonefishing opportunities there. I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who has been to salvador, and better yet, knows something about the bonefishing there. I know salvador is better known for its off-shore fishing, but I'm assuming there has to be bonefish around just about any bahamian island. adivice or recommendations for gear, flies, or even guides on the island would be much appreciated. thanks.
as a new member, im also enjoying reading over the posts very much.
I'm researching the Bahamas for an anniversary trip with my wife. Something for both of us
San Salvador is the same place named in the history books as Columbus' first stop in the new world. I think it's a given that anything with habitat in the Bahamas will have the usual suspects, including bones, permit, tarpon, the ubiquitous cuda, spanish macks raiding bait and albacore (true) not far offshore.
But the question is about bones... there has to be. If I can score two in the bonefish non-destination called Aruba on a tiny spec of a flat on the open coast, I would suspect you'd only need to locate the good flats on the island and hit them enough to earn the encounter, and I would suspect that the encounters would be plentiful.
Although I have only logged 6-7 trips to bonefish country, I found my numerous sight fishing hours on striper flats complemented and was complemented by the bonefishing I've done. In fact it was a trip to the keys that converted me into a striper flats rat years ago.
Anyway I hope someone with experience chimes in... but if not please log everything you can about the island and let's get the information into Destinations. It's about time we really built up the knowledge base on various tropical destinations!
