Wow that look's awesome .The hot fly over here for the moment is a Flash-tailed Clouser in 2/0 .I am still new in tying these pattern's . Do you guy's fish any of D.Blanton's series of flies out east ? Where do I get some of these flies ? Fish-head
#2 Aren't these all just rip-offs of Catherwoods Giant Killer by just substituting hackle for marabou or icelandic sheep? I find it hard to believe that someone was tying that style before him.
Yes, I guess you could say that but Catherwoods..whose flys are also in Ververkas book goes though some different tying techniques..I think.. his flys are fuller with marabou inside the wing .. But all flies are somewhat copies of every fly. Look at the variations we do with the clouser.. they certainly don't look Bob Clousers original and yet they all have the same kind of eyes.
couldn't agree with you more. I guess I just don't have the
right kind of ego, but it's always struck me as hysterical the
number of people who change a color, or a material, or some
aspect of an existing pattern....suddenly, they have "invented"
a brand new pattern! They give it a *NAME* and adopt it as
their own.
fly tying is practically ALL about copying. the materials may
change, and occasionally somebody comes up with something
really and truly "new" but for the most part, it's simply re-mixing
the same stuff.
