I live in Florida and fish inshore and offshore. I am going to visit my parent’s cabin on the Sandy River. I will be there for the first week of June and want to take advantage of my time. You will have to forgive me I do not know the first thing about fishing ya'lls neck of the woods and I have a few questions.

1. Will spinning tackle and lures work out there or must you fly-fish.
2. If spinning tackle does work, what should I bring.
3. If it doesn’t work can ya'll recommend a guide for that area.

I'll start with these questions and go from there. Thank you in advance for the info.

Efishnc:

If you are going to be here the first week of June here are some options:

1) If you want to stay within 1/2 hour of Portland:

Fish the Sandy or Clackamas. On the Sandy try from Oxbow Park up to Marmot. On the Clackamas, try from Barton park up to River Mill Dam.

2) If you dont mind driving a little distance:

Fish the North Santiam east of Salem

OR

*** Hit the salmonfly hatch for big rainbows on the Deschutes....this would be my personal choice! If you have never had an opporunity to cast 3" long dry flies to big pig trout I would highly recommend it. The early part of June should be primetime.

Good Luck
