My favorite nymph pattern is as follows:
Hook - TMC 200 R, Size 14 - 18
Thread - Brown, waxed
Brass or tungsten bead
Tail - Pheasant Tail
Abdomen - Pheasant Tail, with counterwound copper wire
Wing Case - Green Scudback
Thorax - Brown Hares Ear dubbing, tied with a dubbing loop
I make the thorax a little longer than the abdomen. Tying the thorax with a dubbing loop really gives it nice legs. I've used this nymph on the spring creeks in western Wisconsin and southeast Minnesota for the last 5 years with very good results. I've also used it on the Deschutes with good success.
