It doesn't look like much, but the results have made this one is a favorite of mine, for bass & panfish.
Hook #6-12 streamer, a 10 here
thread: black
tail: brown maribou
body: silver embroidery floss
wing: brown maribou
collar & head: Deer hair tied sparse & cut short
Dress it with a floatant and work it on the surface or fish it as is and it very slowly sinks.
Dave, I knew you'd notice that. :hehe: Yep the copper or gold would be a good match. I've also tied this pattern with a violent fluorescent pink wing & tail. It worked well in a honey hole of large mouth I found in a nearby river earlier this week. I just gotta get a canoe to float that river.
This fly would bring out the beasties in large trout and steelhead, particularly out west. Gold highlights work well for those preying on fall caddis, I use gold in all my steelhead sedge patterns which are primarily size 4 or 2.
Riffle hitches make them ride atop the fast water which brings out a violent reaction from salmonids under the right conditions.
Juro I was thinking the same thing. Steelhead would love it. Will tie some up tonight and see how the cowlitz fish feel about them early in the morning on Sunday.
