Mosquito Larva Gray

Hook: 22 Dry
Thread: 6/0 Black
Body: Gadwall Flank Fibers

Wind on forward, then back over to bend; take Gadwall flank feather and remove several fibers, or barbs. Set fibers on hook, tips facing reverse, one to two securing wraps. Wind thread forward to one eye-width of eye.

Wrap feather fibers once around shank, laying flat and side by side as they advance. Catch at thorax as mentioned in the black version, on top of hook; fold, re-fold, etc., creating thorax. Cement; trim antennae close to eye.

Do this one of two ways. Either tie the gadwall butts down over the shank, tips facing backward, to be wound forward and use the tips as antennae, or tie tips to shank, winding butts to front - your choice depending on what type of antennae you want.

This ties down to 32 with 8/0 thread and fewer and fewer barbs off the gadwall feather.
