New fly rodder (basically new fisherman) here and looking to find some shore (or wading) friendly spots as I don't have a boat. I know people don't like to give out hot spots on the internet so even just a pointer to a pond or river that is accessible by foot is cool. I live in Warwick and have been hitting some smaller local stuff for panfish to cut my teeth. Would like to move up to more 'serious' bass and trout as my skills and comfort level improve.
Do you have a kayak or a belly boat, or will you be only wading and shore fishing? For a little state, RI has a lot of choices not far from you (I assume you can drive).
For trout I'd try the Wood River and Carolina pond in south county. Bass: Johnson's Pond and Brickyard Pond in Barrington. When I was a grade schooler I caught my first fly rod fish in Gorton's Pond in Warwick; that pond actually has some good Bass and Pickeral in the small part.
I caught my first 'flyrodded' fish in Gorton's Pond last week! I bring my son there because it's so close to the house and he can easily catch sunnies (he's only 5). Thanks for the info, I was aware of Wood River but not the others, I'll check them out!
John
