My friend had a place in W. Falmouth summers of '97 and '98 and I fished there a lot, but it was all by small boat. So, my .02--
Early June in the Bay is usually great for both bass and blues (big fish too), with a lot of daytime activity, herring are around, and it's not that crowded. June is my favorite fishing month, despite lack of hardtailed fish.
I remeber doing very well there in early July (i.e. July 4th weekend)early in the day and into the afternoon; there are lots of smaller blues then and lots of sandeels/silversides, but daytime fishing really slows down by late July.
Depending on the year, end of August can have peak bone/albie/spanish macks, but the bass fishing can be very frustrating.
So, for bass/blues I'd say June, for albies and such, August.
This year was apparently very different for some reason and I heard Buzzards Bay was not as good parts of June and July (i.e. my friends who normally fish/live there wouldn't go and began trailering to the Vineyard or Monomoy). I remember reading it was slow too, but not sure why--but that is all second hand, as I didn't fish there 'til August.
If you can get access to a boat, June is crazy--the canal is gigging, the Elizabeths are gigging, the Vineyard and Middleground, squid runs, Woods Hole, all within 15 minutes....and best of all, the moron factor is still negigible pre-July. Is it summer yet?
