Body & Rib: Silver 2 stranded metallic floss, tied in at the eye and wound flat back to the bend then twist the 2 strands into 1 tight strand and wind back to the eye.
Wing: yellow bucktail topped by red bucktail then topped by yellow bucktail. Equal amounts of red & yellow bucktail are used for the under wings while the top wing has ~ 1 1/2 to 2 times the amount of bucktail used for the yellow underwing.
John...Looks like a Joe Brooks Honey Blonde... Nice... I put a honey blonde in the classics section here on the Striper archive some time ago. What is interesting is that Brooks tied it but it came from a freshwater model...so those are still highly effective.
John its interesting that you bring up Joe Brooks & the blonds. This winter I've been borrowing the "classic" books on fishing via interlibrary loan. Colonel Bates in his book on streamers talks about Joe Brooks disappointment that the blond was not used more in freshwater.
Needless to say they are on my list for later in the winter.
Fred, works GREAT for steelies here. It is my fly of "last resort", when it's a slow day. Usually is good for a steelie or two when they seem to have lockjaw! Good for lake-run browns, too - but as you probably know, they are noted for hitting "patterns with some yellow in them".
I have good success with this fly in off colored water (read: SPRING).
