Saw a show last winter on cable which was filmed off of Africa where scientists were towing floating seal replicas to bring Great Whites up to jump and breach for them.
Pretty awesome to see that, supposedly the only place they can get whites to jump.
Hal, the show on Sunday night disproved the fact that great whites only breach off of South Africa. A South African research scientist accompanied expeditions off of the coasts of California and Australia where sharks are rarely if ever seen coming out of the water. Trollling a very realistic seal decoy on top brought some whites out of the water in both locations, much to the disbelief of the local scientists. Apparently it's a hard-wired instinct in these animals to take advantage of an easy target overhead.
The show was called "Air Jaws II". It should be repeated at some point during the next few months and is definitely worth the time to watch.
Cool, will look for it, do their eye sockets point upwards like muskellunge which is why they can be caught on or near the surface most of the seaon ?
Perhaps a great white shark seal fly, tying contest would be appropriate for next winter ? (Just kidding :hehe: :hehe: )
Needed a laugh have some particularly difficult state legal issues right now at work.
