For all those who fish 18 mile creek (tributary to Lake Erie) for steelhead, please read this e-mail.
There is a proposal by the DEC to create a no-kill (catch & release only), artificials only section on 18 mile creek from the Forks section upstream on both branches (where the north and south branch of 18 mile creek meet). According to DEC personnel, the proposal to pass this Catch and Release Artificial Only section on 18 Mile Creek, (from the Forks section upstream on both branches) in Hamburg has a number of negative supporters in the Federation of Sportsman's Clubs. In Chautauqua County the Federation there has approved the Catch and Release measure for Chautauqua Creek ! The DEC has utill July 15th to make their recommendations to Albany.
You should voice your opinion (if you have one on this issue) to Bill Culligan, whose contact information is below. It is imperative that the DEC hear from as many anglers as possible so they have a good basis for making their decision. They will base their recommendation mostly on angler input on this issue. Whichever group has the largest voice, the DEC will likely favor.

If anyone is interested in this issue please contact Bill Culligan at the Dunkirk Fisheries Office or email him at WJCULLIG@GW.DEC.STATE.NY.US mail to:
