My buddy and I are concocting a late season trip to the Thompson, but I'm hearing it may face emergency closure. Does anyone have any news on that?
thanks
Haven't heard any rumours about a closure, although I wouldn't be surprised considering the returns, but I have heard that apparently the Nicola coming up with recent rains (which aren't expected to let up all that much in the next while considering the El Nino precipitation we've had in the past week) has put many of the spots out. The Nicola blows out quick from my understanding.
Go to the thompson the longer you wait the colder it gets
There fish in the river so just go and have a good time. Call the Garunda inn (steelhead inn) 1 250-458-2311 and have fun !!
Ok, this is a bit more than 2nd hand, but I called the local shop by my house today and I heard a report that apparently something to the effect of that a guy came into the store yesterday and he had a buddy up there who said that with the heavy rains that brought the Nicola up, that a slide occured and it washed a noticeable amount of sediment into the river. Don't consider what I said fact, but this is just what I heard. If this is the case, it could take a few weeks to let the river clear up. We had a claybank slide happen on a VI river last winter and it made the river incredibly silty for a long time. Considering you're searching for a needle in the hay stack when this river is clear (one fish every 6.5 days as per the 1998 creel survey for fly anglers), I could only imagine how difficult it would be when the river has colour.
The river is clear, fishing is slow and weather wise it is warmer than normal. No the river is not closing. People that live on the lowermainland of b.c. and don't go to the river fishing just pass "rumors" along.
Our Thompson trip was a success in early December. Not alot of fish and the river was low, but the Thompson fish are great.
Thanks for the tips. Well worth the trip! First fishies on my two-hander.
