Atlantic Salmon Fly of the week - Cosseboom

John C. Cosseboom of Rhode Island created this fly in 1935 while he was on the S.S. Fleuris on his way to Anricosti Island. Since that time this fly has come to be a staple in most salmon fisherman’s boxes. John believed that the red head of the fly would look like blood and trigger the fish to strike. It also happens to be the first fly I ever caught an Atlantic salmon on.

Hook: Up eye Atlantic salmon hook
Tag: Oval silver tinsel.
Tail: Light olive silk.
Body: Light olive silk.
Rib: Embossed silver tinsel.
Wing: Gray squirrel.
Hackle: Soft yellow hackle wound as a collar.
Head: Red
