Atlantic Salmon Fly of the week – Coq De Leon

Yet another great fly from master fly tier Daniel Dufour, one of Quebec’s greatest fly tier. He has won many prestigious fly-tying contests with his more artistic flies including the FQSA Salmon Fly Tying World Championship witch he won 7 times making him the FQSA’s only Grand Master. He has invented many patterns for fishing that are now Gaspe standards. This pattern is a multi purpose pattern that works under many different conditions.


Hook: Up eye salmon hook.
Tag: Fine oval silver tinsel and fluorescent green floss.
Tail: golden pheasant crest.
Butt: Red ostrich herl
Rib: Back ½, fine oval silver tinsel and black silk floss, front ½, fine oval silver tinsel and fluorescent green silk floss.
Body: Back ½, fluorescent green silk floss, front ½, Black silk floss.
Joint: Coq de Leon hackle and red ostrich herl between body segments
Hackle: Long green hackle.
Wing: Black skunk tail.
Cheeks: Jungle cock.
Collar: Coq de Leon hackle.
