I'm sorry to be the bearer of such sad news, but I learned this morning that Del Brown has passed away.
For those who don't know, Del was a tremendous pioneer in saltwater flyfishing, known best for catching more permit on fly than anyone to date: at least 500. Del was a kind, perceptive man who loved flyfishing for permit and advanced the development of flies for them by fishing diligently and doggedly for them for many years. I was lucky enough to guide him for several years in the Keys.
His passing is a great loss to those of us who knew him, and an even larger loss to the flyfishing community, which saw only rare glimpses of his person but benefited greatly from his pursuit.
