I fished a couple hours over jumping, rolling, breeching coho yesterday morning with no takers. They were staging fish and so I retired my popper and fished my best Croft Spider on an intermediate line. Not even a lick.
After a month of fishing Point No Point, Twin Spits, Eglon, Meadowdale, Meadow Point, Lincoln Park, Olalla, the Narrows et al., I've pretty much given the Puget Sound beach season up as a bust. After my article was published in Northwest Fly Fishing, I was flooded with calls to guide. I took some on and with the beaches being void of coho, I quickly ran out of funny stories, anecdotes, jokes and remembrances of good days past.
Thankfully, the searun cutthroat fishing with poppers in the South Sound is going great guns.
