Hello A little while back I picked up an older Billy Pate bonefish reel on ebay.I took it apart cleaned got all the sand out of it greased it and it works great I don't know why people abuse their gear like that. The reel had a line on it when I cast it the line just hammers out .I take it that this a bonefish line.I fish Atlantic Salmon and always use a weight #8 or 9 .Can someone tell me what the difference is in these lines?I find I can cast a mile :chuckle: with this mystery line thanks Rod.P.S. can a person use a bonefish line to fish salmon?
Those Pate reels are great. The good thing about a well-built reel like this is that you can pick them up used, clean them up or even send them to the factory to have be refurbished, and you're good to go for many years to come.
The thing with bonefish lines is that they're usually built on monofilment cores, which makes them stiff and unsuitable for cold-water fishing. They're at their best in the heat, where cold-water lines would turn to mush.
Could be a bonefish line you have, though, as these are usually optimized for distance casting.
Thanks for the info Count think I'll have to learn that blasted double haul. :chuckle:
