Bend Backs

Have just started tying on bend backs and want to be sure that hook point rides up. I have been wrapping some .02 wire thread right as the bend starts and wonder how much of the wire thread(how many turns) do I need to put on? Weight of the wire is mini, about 1 grain/inch. Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions.

It's part material and part weight. Using buoyant material like bucktail causes the back to ride up, as does counterweight. Not sure if you recall the "jelly belly" pattern I came up with years ago but it uses a chrome-lined soft plastic wrap which combined with buoyant material requires no additional weighting to ride up.

Experimentation is the best teacher.
