Hey I am thinking about the soon-to-arrive bitter cold, snow, slush, ugh and how nice it's going to be to escape right in the thick of it! It's a good time to start the planning process.

Our friend Felton Rolle has just built a spankin' new place on Acklins and I'm putting a group together from the FORUM to make a deep winter sanity trip down there...

White crushed coral sands and turquiose waters, mangroves and bonefish - adjacent to bluewater wahoo and dorado with lobster and cocktails waiting for dinner at the lodge! Beat the crap out of shoveling :)

Who's in?

next step ?

Seems like we have the makings of a great group....

Juro what is the next step....a lot of folks need more details like costs and possible dates etc...

I would be happy to help on research or whatever you need...

Let's make it happen

Hmm... It seems like this forum has become a closed society centered around southeast New England coastal fishing and where we're going during the Winter. By "closed society" I mean the same group of anglers rehashing the same old questions/events. There's not a lot of comment here considering the WORLDWIDE SCOPE OF FLYFISHING unless it's by the same old group of contributors. You've lost the freshwater crowd and anyone else regardless of where they fish. I once was told in this forum that it was the "Striped Bass" forum. Enough said, I guess. Either shrink this down to what it is or make an effort to expand it.

Poster By Millerbrown on 3-16-2009 --In the spring clave thread:

"It's been a while since I've visited this forum. Do you guys have any idea what you sound like?? This is like a secret society. Why don't you just get off the web and just email each other with all your personal chatter! Someone new would have no idea what you are talking about.

Just an observation."

Poster by Millerbrown on 9-27-2008 - Forum posting

"I used to subscribe to a half dozen fly fishing magazines just a few years ago but let all but two go because most of what I read was redundant. Just a new angle on old subjects. I would guess that "forums" become much of the "same old same old". What's worse is that forums have a tendency to become nothing more than conversations between "friends". Also, there's nothing worse then to see a good subject digress to "off topic" chit chat. That's what happens here and at other like venues. That static should be left to PM's.

That's it for starters."

Interestingly enough Mr. Millerbrown signed onto the Clave dinner thread....to join in with the "friends" I suppose.

This thread is on the Bonefish forum with responders from all over the country and some foreign........sounds like MB has a "secret" agenda in posting that remark here. Perhaps, maybe...something about "southeast New England coastal fishing"?????

Forums, communities, "societies" et. al. - are simply what you make them.

If you choose to stand along the sidelines and comment on how poorly the team is playing, you're not adding any value. However if you train, perfect your game and jump onto the field then you're making something happen.

We are all empowered with the ability to make great posts. **** or get off the pot as the saying goes. Have a nice day! :hihi:

My .02

I was going to get defensive about his comments but I started thinking.

A few years back I signed up for one of the Acklins trips...didn't know anyone and was welcomed by all....made some new "friends" Juro , JimS and FredA.

When I visited Chatham a while back ... JimS and FredA took me around and showed me some spots and let me tag along....at one point let me take the first shot at some fish on the flats....how "friendly" is that...

Another time in Chatham I bumped into Paxton(Ron) and though I didn't really know him we fished the day together and he is a fine person to know.

What I am trying to say is most of my immediate friends do not fish and it is great for me to exchange and learn fly fishing info with the folks on this forum and rather than plan winter trips solo I can share expenses and the experience.

I never find them to be exclusive...quite the contrary.... on other sites I see certain folks know each other and exchange funny comments to and about each other and I don't find I am left out ... I enjoy the posts..

The folks here have been great to me and I hope I have given back a bit.

You know I'm there. I know the temptation is HUGE for this thread to go off on a tangent..... Lets keep the Acklins talk going.

MB You're welcome to participate (online or in person) anytime. If you don't like the way we communicate your also welcome to go someplace else.

Got no clue what you're talking about. This forum is a forum where I at least got info om some things and I don't think there's much more forums this open for real outsiders like a native Aruban Dutchman, a Danish Bonebum, a French Marketing dude etcetera. If you have a nicer forum, pm me about it. I am curious. But it doesn't make a forum worse if there are some guys who know each other and contribute their knowledge.
In fact, each forum has it's own hero's and for now you are not on that list i suppose:tsk_tsk:

I think we should get back to the trip discussion. The more we give to this the more enjoyment the poster gets...seeing back and watching the "developments". ...and getting the attention pathologically needed....so....I will simply delete all the threads if it continues and leave the last ones prior to the baiting post.

Sorry John I don't agree with you.
Please don't delete messages on this thread I find them very valid.

You are reacting to conflict with censorship. Something that, at least, Europeans are not used to.

I find the solidarity (a european expression) great and that board members are pushed by a negative outsider to express their feelings that this board is an interesting place.

I personally have met a lot of people through this board and I feel that it has had a great impact on my life.
I feel that I have got to know a lot of very interesting people, a large number of them I would like to call friends. without this board that would not have happened.

Going back to the main part of this discussion, about Acklins, I met some of my best friends there, through a trip sort of organized by this board.

Juro you do a great job. I am delighted to be part of the team. If an infrequent poster needs to remind us of this then thank you millerbrown.

However I agree with my friend Dave17 if you don't like it then, I'll not use the Anglo saxon but the biblical, "go forth and procreate".

Ok Pete..But as a trained lawyer I am well aware of what censorship is here in this country and have had experience is such matters .There is no state action here and ANY "groups" can determine what they want on the board. Many will not allow trolling or baiting and that has nothing to do with "censorship". That being said I would not unilaterally delete threads.... But it was done as a warning that I DO NOT expect the thread to evolve into a shouting match going forward. To simplify (as an extreme example)... a Parents website can choose not to have pornography on it's website, just as any web site can determine that baiting and trolling does not help further healthy discussion....that post was baiting and there is a "pattern" of similar activity. You brought up "censorship" and should not miscontrue what real censorship is and what free speach means... I know clearly what it means here. I will leave it at that and I am certain I am reaching NO conflict with "censorship".

woa!!!!!!!!!
calm down guys. it isn't even winter yet and the skin is already much too thin. remember, it's fishing- supposed to be fun.

i've never done aklins, and wouldn't mind giving it a go although i'm told by others that the fish are very small. is that accurate?

btw, for a number of years when i went to the bahamas for bonefish i would first stop in georgia for a few days of trophy trout fishing. great combo-days of huge trout in the georgia mountains immediately followed by bonefish on the flats-something for most everyone. if that idea appeals to anyone, then perhaps we can coordinate things. i'd be happy to handle the georgia part.
