I've learned a lot of boat terms in my building adventure but I haven't run across keelbox. What is that?

More closely refers to sailing than powerboating; watertight enclosure which allows hoisting/lowering of weighted keel through bottom.

Keelbox

It is different. This is baseline construction where the bottom is made then is made then a box like frame is added then the sole. The boat is self bailing with the sole above the waterline.
Everything is built off this base- sides quarter seats and, my favorite, casting deck. It is very straightforward construction.
