Fly from a brit

My good pal Steve Richards and I, were on one of our customary out of season tying nights, last year and were fooling around with clousers and bead chain

Anyways we came up with this after many amendments and I thought I would share it with you guys

We call it the Bob Marley, I think you can all guess the tying methods, although the picture shows gold chain, we mostly tie it in a red chain, green overwraps and a black wing.

Jamaican colours and the bead chain reminded us of dreadlocks hence the name.

Anyways it has been christened by a friend in the seychelles and caught a number of bones on its first day out.

The beauty of the fly is this it ALWAYS settles point up, for obvious reasons, it kicks dust and the wing (customarily artic fox, waves prettily at passers by. The chain wriggles seductively too

Here it is

We really rate it over here.

Best wishes

K

What a great idea...the kicking up of sand is a technique that could be applied to striper flies...HHHMMM....Thanks for the submission.

I wondered about your chain idea for our crab flies. Where are you in North Kent? I often used to stay in Hook Green (near Lamberhurst) on business trip weekends, and fish Bewl Bridge and Bayham Abbey. It's a beautiful part of the country.

Hi John, thanks for the nice comment

& Vt

I'm based in Herne Bay (North Kent and know Lamberhurst well

I visited the Cape in 2005 and met John at JimS' abode, a very happy 10 days for the 10 brits who came over

Thanks for sharing the unique concept for your fly. The use of a length of bead chain could definitely be applied to sand eels and crab patterns.

Regarding your question about Monomoy. With the closure of the southway, there is minimal mixing between South Beach and North Monomoy. In fact, during the summer, the lack of water exchange makes it an algae-laden soup. Everyone is hoping a good northeaster will punch a hole between the ocean and the estuary on South Beach.

Thanks Jim

I trust you and your good lady are well

Saw a few aerials of Monomoy recently, looked like a war zone!

Regards

Kieran
