i've been searching all over for a well-frequented fly fishing board. this and Flyanglers Online seems to be good. as for me, i'm fairly new to the sport having bought my first rig this past spring. spent a few months practice casting on grass and ponds until i moved to Steamboat Springs, CO for three months. my intention was to be a mountain bike bum, but the weather didn't cooperate so i instead became a fly fishing bum. right down to the shorts and floppy hat. stocked groceries at nite, fished during the day -- can't complain. spent lots of days on the Yampa and Elk rivers and got to fish the Gunnison, Taylor, and other rivers and creeks. weather started dipping into the low 30's every morning starting in September and the rains started in earnest so fishing slowed down. well, it went underwater and i learned dry nymphing and finally landed a rainbow on the 'other side of the bridge' at Sarvice Creek Wilderness. with that, i pretty much packed it in, said goodbye to my roomate, Ben, and headed to Grand Junction to ride/party with a bunch of friends that travelled from Austin/SA and elsewhere. ended my summer with a fun bang and a 20-hour drive back to Houston. so here i am, and will be, asking a bunch of questions on rigs for redfish on the Texas coast. and eventually a spring creek rig for my trip back to Colorado and Montana.
if anyone else is around Houston, has a fly rod and is looking to get into some bass, Hill Country trout, and coastal redfish, give me a hollar. i also mountain bike and photograph when i'm not casting.
