Question weight forward leaders

Does anyone still tie weight forward leaders anymore?
I have done this for years and it really helps turn over extra-fluffy drys, or streighten long leaders on a windy day...

The leader is tied like most normal tapered leaders to about 2/3 the length, then it tapers up quickly and back fown again to the tippit.

The quick increase turns your leader into a "MINI" weight forward fly line.

Example: 4x tippit
.019 - .017 - .015 - .013 - .011 - .009 - .015 - .011 - .009 - .007

Please feel free to give this a try, nothing is written in stone, use any taper and length you wish.

Who knows, it may be the edge you need on those windy days.
Spring will sprung...
The grass will riz...
Wonder where those mayflies is?

Talking WF Leaders and Leaders in general

I've used them in the past, and they DO work well. I haven't had occasion to use 'em lately though. Less wind where I live now.

I've tied leaders since I was a kid, and enjoy preparing several for a special trip. I have cut down on the number of reductions in mono diameter, going down in fewer steps - and with VERY good results. Depends on the knot used, I guess!

I use A.J. McClane's old formula of 60 % butt, 20 % taper, and 20 % tippet. It may be old, but it still works very well.
