Michigan Fly Fishing Heritage

fyi

Check out the link below, series of Upper Midwest Golden Triangle articles and the Pere Marquette one. The "Move on to" link at the bottom of each article leads you to the next article in the series.

You may find out where Hemingway grew up as a youth, The Adams fly was invented, Trout Unlimited was formed, and where trout stream guide river boats were invented, and night hex fishing for big browns (take note flyfishark). These articles only talk about a few of the great trout and salmon rivers in this region (thank god !) there are many many others.

Thank you corporate america for transferring me to this region in 1979, it will take a lot to get me to move or even consider and out of the region fishing trip with the fine cold and warm water fisheries we have here in the great lakes region. In addition to Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ontario, Indiana, and the other great lakes states also have trout and salmon fisheries of significance. Illinois only has the lake michigan fishery no rivers of any significance, but we can get to Wisconsin, Indiana, michigan in 1-2 hours.

Actually warm water: large and small mouth bass, walleye, musky, etc. are just as good.

P.S. Love the quote in the Pere Marquette article referring to its steelhead fly fisherman : "their hands are rough and chaped, their eyes are glazed, and there feet are cold"
