Weipa, Australia

Two weeks in far north Queensland on the Gulf of Carpentaria with Silas, Matt and Jamie. Here are a few pics of the fishery, one of the best on the planet.

photos of the pristine area of Weipa, in far north Queensland. The fishing only gets better after the wet seaon ends, normally the last of March. There are about 28 species that can be taken on the fly. Species in high esteem include, barramundi, longtail tuna, coral trout, several trevally, blue bastards, threadfin salmon, mac tuna (false albacore), spaniards (short bar mackeral), etc.

It is a remote area on the Gulf of Carpentaria, and is on the map because of a large concentration of bauxite, the base ore for aluminum. Easily accessible by air from Cairns, and by 4wd after the wet season, it caters to fishermen from around the world that know a good thing.

Jim...great pics and happy that you had a great time. Not that I will go there this lifetime...but I would find it interesting (others maybe too) of a pic showing all the types of flies you guys used. Maybe even some local ties there.
See ya soon at the Cape.
Ron
