Checking in from the land of giant tarpon

jumped 4 today, broke down and rented a small skiff for two hours - should have started in the morning from the boat but rented noon - 2pm the worst time for sun and slow fishing but still had 8 or 9 takes with four jumped zero landed

moved on to get the rental car back to SJ long drive lots of traffic

walked miles of grass flats yesterday mid-day, no bones or permit seen but I saw two from the boat in flight today as I cruised over a large flat between two mangrove islands

frankly I mostly hiked cliffs and swam incredible beaches and chewed the fat with locals, fishermen are common here only took a dozen casts the first day but those were at 75 pound tarpon from shore (video coming)

today I actually pulled the fly away from 5-6 foot fish to save my only killer fly, a big ass creeper (the PNW guys know this pattern I developed for summer steelhead) hooked fish that were much more reasonable in size instead

30# leader is useless, cut the butt section down to a foot from the line to hold them they learn quick, have to keep moving

have not been able to wake up early yet to find them rolling in lagoons all in areas facing open water

not as good as I would have thought but it's probably my learning curve and lack of a boat in most spots

heading to other locales will check in again later

out

AWESOME!!! How big were the fish you jumped? I'm kinda confused on the 30lb leader, you were talking about. Do you mean 30lb butt section or bite tippet? I wish you luck and safe travels.

High temp here today 30... and it is windy..
