Black and Blue Sqrimp

Here is my BIG fly. It was inspired by Jack Cook's prawn style, but tied my style, which is usually faster, and with cheaper materials than the patterns that inspired me. I also tie it in Orange. Between the two colors, I'm covered. This particular fly has drawn blood

Is a sqrimp a special steelhead fly that I'm not familiar with?

Makes for a nice looking squid fly too! How does the free swinging hook work for you?

Hey all. Sqrimp is just a combination of "squid" and "shrimp", cuz it looks like both to me. Yes it is tied on a waddington and the loop is tied with Fireline or other superbraid type line.

As to the free swinging hook, I haven't had any tangling problems, and this fly was one for one in hookup to landing ratio this past "winter" season. Rough winter out here by our standards. Last year it was three for four chances, but one of the fish did take it deep. Don't know if it was because of the trailing hook configuration, or the fact that that's a size 4 Owner SSW hook. Four fish landed on a particular fly is not a solid proving ground

Cool fly Philster,

Looks like it would be a great high water fly. What is the pattern for that puppy?
